RON AND RHONDA
LIFE AND TIDES ON THE PORLIER PRINCESS
STATUS: IN PRODUCTION / POST-PRODUCTION
OVERVIEW
"Ron and Rhonda - Life and Tides on the Porlier Princess" is a family portrait of a daughter reconnecting with her dad by becoming his deckhand during the commercial fishing season.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
This documentary is about a father and daughter reconnecting through commercial fishing in Haida Gwaii. Rhonda grew up on her family’s boat, the Porlier Princess, but has been away from fishing for more than 30 years. The boat itself holds their history—the loss of her mother when she was a teenager and her coming of age.
Now, she has returned as her father’s deckhand, determined to savour the time they have together and to support him in continuing the work he loves. Their journey unfolds against the backdrop of an industry in sharp decline, as Ron and his peers—now in their 70s and 80s—fish through the twilight of their careers.
At its heart, this film is about legacy, resilience, and what it means to hold on to what matters most.
